Become a University Writing Center consultant for San Marcos or Round Rock. Consultants support writers from a variety of majors and through all stages of writing, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing for sentence-level clarity. We hire all majors from all levels and from a variety of skill sets.

We are currently looking to fill a variety of roles:

  • Undergraduate consultants (sophomores or above who plan to return for the next academic year)

  • Graduate consultants

  • Veteran and military-connected consultants

Qualifications:

  • A commitment to helping others improve

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • B or better in ENG 1310 and ENG 1320

  • B or better in all other writing-intensive classes

We especially encourage you to apply if you have the following skills or backgrounds:

  • majoring in communications, history, philosophy, sciences, criminal justice, or health administration along with other, non-English majors;

  • familiar with writing styles and guides for AP, APA, ASA, Chicago, and/or Turabian;

  • familiar with ASL;

  • multilingual, especially Spanish;

  • able to advise on application materials (job search, scholarships, graduate school), theses, and/ or publications;

  • tutoring or pedagogical experience, particularly in writing;

  • understanding of how people learn, particularly how they learn to write;

  • developing media or social media plans and campaigns; and

  • earning a B or above in MC1100B or earning an 80% or above on the PUG Exam.
