Bobcat Chat Online Tutorial Service extends our individualized tutorial services to Texas State Students who do not live in San Marcos or who are unavailable during our operating hours. Bobcat Chat is the online equivalent of the normal one-to-one tutoring we offer in the Writing Center.

What is it?

Bobcat Chat is the Writing Center’s real-time online tutorial service, providing an online alternative to meeting in the Writing Center in person. This service allows a tutor and student to communicate and work together in real-time while meeting in an online environment.

Just as in regular Writing Center appointments, the tutor can help with any stage of the writing process--from brainstorming through various drafts to the final draft.

During the online tutorial, students engage in a dialogue about their writing with a trained Writing Center counselor, simulating a face-to-face tutorial. Both parties are able to see the student’s work on screen and can speak to each other via chat and microphone.

Note: This is not an editing service; the Writing Center's goal is to encourage students to become confident self-editors so that they can assess and revise their work independently.
