Ryane Hopper is the tutor assigned to McCoy Hall. She is an undergraduate student in the English department with one year experience as a tutor. The available time for tutoring is Tuesdays from 2 pm to 5 pm, in study room 226. A student interested in help can either drop by the room in McCoy or call the Writing Center at (512) 245-3018 to make an appointment. Students who call the Writing Center need to specify that he or she wishes to have an appointment in McCoy.

The Writing Center is a student service dedicated to improving writing and self-editing skills campus wide.  The tutors are able to help with any assignment from any discipline, including cover letters and resumes, from the planning stages to polishing the final draft. The services are all free of charge to current students.

Joseph M. Tucci—president and CEO of EMC Corporation, and chairman of the Business Roundtable's Education and the Workforce Task Force—says, "With the fast pace of today's electronic communications, one might think that the value of fundamental writing skills has diminished in the workplace. Actually, the need to write clearly and quickly has never been more important than in today's highly competitive, technology-driven global economy” (Writing Commission).

If you would like more information on the Writing Center or its services, please contact Courtney Steen at (512) 245-3018 or via e-mail at cs1339@txstate.edu.
