Due to a loss of funding, the Texas State University Writing Center will not run its high school creative writing camp.
However, the Young Writers' Camp is still being held!
For students ages 6-18, day camps meet in July at Texas State University-San Marcos or at the Round Rock Higher Education Center. Ages 6-8 and 9-11 meet two weeks in the mornings (July 6-10 and July 13-17). Ages 12-14 meet the same two weeks in the afternoons. Ages 15-18 have two options. The High School Creative Writing camp is one week from July 20-24 and there is also a SAT preparation camp that meets 4 Saturdays. With funding from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Texas State University Writing Center once again offered a Creative Writing Camp for high school students.
Fourteen high school students from all over Texas attended the camp. Campers received writing instruction from MFA students Katie Angermeier, Nathan Baran, Billie Bernard, and Benjamin Engel. They also attended special presentations at the Aquarena Center and the Witliff Gallery.
The campers produced a journal entitled (De)Centaurs and gave a public reading at the Katherine Anne Porter House in Kyle, Texas.
For their support of the camp, we thank the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Texas State University Department of English, Texas State University Writing Center, Texas State University Bookstore, Texas State University Aquarena Center, Texas State University Witliff Gallery, H-E-B, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Pizza Hut, Subway, Fuschaks, Sean Patrick's Pub, Woody's Barbeque, and Zen's Pizza.
These podcasts were created by writers participating in the 2008 Creative Writing Camp. We thank Paige Normand and Katie Angermeier for helping us to produce these.
